NAHB National Green Building Certification Program

The National Green Building Certification Program is voluntary and based on the National Association of Home Builders Green Building Guidelines. The benefits to owners of green built certified homes are lower utility costs, increased comfort, improved environmental quality, enhanced durability, less maintenance, and peace of mind. To qualify, homes are certified by a third-party verifier.

The qualifications are based on seven basic principles related to:

  • lot preparation and design
  • resource efficiency
  • energy efficiency
  • water efficiency and conservation
  • occupancy, comfort, and indoor air quality
  • operation, maintenance, and education
  • global impact
